FTP

1) What is FTP?
The process by which files are transferred to the web server is called "FTP" (File Transfer Protocol). You have unlimited access via FTP 24 hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your leisure.

2) What is Cute FTP?
One of the most widely used FTP clients (programs), Cute FTP offers an intuitive, easy to understand interface. The screen consists of three sections: above is the server message screen, where you can see what commands are being given by both your FTP program and the server you are on. Whatever action happens between the two computers, you'll see a command in this window. Below this window and to the left is your computer's drive. In here, you can navigate your files and directories by clicking to find the things you want to upload. To the right of this window is the drive of the server you are currently connected to. Directly above both of these windows, you'll see a field telling you the correct directories of both your computer and the server.

3) How do I find out my FTP username and password so I can FTP material to my web site?
The username is your domain name including the COM or org or net etc, but with no period/dot Eg: domain name = mydomain.com
User ID = mydomaincom
The support team will provide password.
After entering the provided information into Cute FTP you can start uploading your folders and files.

4) Functional knowledge of FTP?
The first thing that is displayed is the Site Manager. You can connect to any of the displayed sites by clicking on the folder you want, then highlight the site you want (in the right window) and click on the Connect button. What you will mainly be interested in, however, is your own private site, as you would probably like to upload your web pages. First select a folder from the left window in which you would like your site to reside, or create a new folder by clicking on the Add Folder button. Enter a folder name (anything you want) then click OK. Next, highlight the newly created or selected folder, and click on the Add Site button. When CuteFTP is launched, to add a new server to your FTP Site Manager, click on the small folder tree icon to the far left of the toolbar close to the top of the window. This will bring up the Site Manager.

To add a connection, highlight the folder where you want to put the new connection and click the "Add site" button under the address window. Next, you'll see the site editor window. Here, in the "Site Label" field, you'll put the name you want to appear in the Site Manager window. This is just a title or label. In the "Host Address" field, put in the actual Internet address for the site, which is provided by the support team whether it's the name address or the IP address.

The userID and password fields below indicate your ID and password on the site you're connecting to. Directly below this, you'll choose the type of connection you want to make to the server; "Normal" indicates you have a unique ID and password for the system, whereas "Anonymous" allows you to connect to the server without actuallyhaving your own ID and password for the system (Anonymous FTP is not supported by our servers).

"Double" logs you into the server in two separate sessions. Most servers discourage this. "Transfer Type" refers to whether the file you're transferring is a binary (program file) or an ASCII file (text). We support the "Auto Detect" type of transfer file, which will of course, detect the file type automatically each time you transfer a file. When you're finished entering the information for the server, click 'OK' to save it to the folder you specified.

5) Where do I upload files in FTP?
If it is a Linux setup you need to upload files in the "htdocs" folder.
In case of an NT setup you can upload files in the "www" folder.

6) I cannot connect to FTP?
Reasons for this:
a) Username or password not being accepted
b) IP address is incorrect ie name servers registered in your domain and the name servers in which your setup is done are not identical. In this case you will have to fill up an online modification form through ibninfosys.com/opendom. Once the name server is modified you will not face any problems in getting connected to FTP.

7) I have forgotten my password?
Please contact our support team at support@ibninfosys.com.

8) Do you support anonymous FTP?
No! We do not support this.

9) Can I change the ftp password?
No! You cannot make any changes related to passwords from your end.

10) Can I use FTP and FrontPage?
Users of FrontPage® must use FrontPage® to upload files to their site and NOT FTP. However we donot give Microsoft FrontPage support. So you can only use FTP to upload all your files.
